The sun is shining, Spring is in the air, this gets me in the mood for a good WEDDING!!
I had always envisioned having a cosy December Winter wedding, cold weather, real fires, Christmas trees etc. However, what we actually had was the total opposite. We were very fortunate that the spring day we eventually chose had glorious sunshine and Spring flowers in abundance meaning we were able to have our ceremony outdoors! It couldn't have been more different to what I had originally imagined!
No matter what season you choose, your guests are going to be asking you about gifts you would like for your big day.
Gift giving for weddings has changed a lot over the years, with the traditional toaster or dinner-set being replaced with more unique ideas or more unusual homeware gifts. With a lot of people already being set up within their home for a number of years before a wedding, gift giving can be a little trickier in recent years.
Lets looks at some more unique or different gift ideas to inspire you!
My favourite... Homeware!
So despite the toaster or dinner-set being a relative thing of the past, there is nothing wrong with a homeware related gift still. In fact, I could have done with a new dinner-set myself to be honest! Melody Maison have a beautiful range of homeware ranging from furniture to decorative pieces. This silver stag head has made it on to my own personal list and will be sneaking it's way on to my dining room wall! If stag heads aren't your thing, then maybe this decorative station style wall clock? I spent so long looking for the 'right' clock for my dining room, and then I found this beauty! A Little Bit Special have this personalised slate clock featuring your names and wedding date for something to commemorate the date itself. Staying on the slate theme, this cute love story hanging slate sign would look lovely in the garden and again can be personalised to you. Skipping back to the more traditional homeware gift, this copper storage canister set would look stunning in any kitchen. My list has expanded substantially from these websites alone!
Not on the High Street vendor The Rustic Dish create a range of beautiful olive wood personalised cheese boards. I treated myself to one of these in the run up to the wedding as we were having a cheese and pork pie cake in the evening. However it was so beautiful I used it as a decoration instead as I was worried about it getting damaged!
For the great travellers amongst us…
Maybe you would like to commemorate your honeymoon or celebrate your love for travelling in your gift inspiration. JB Crafts UK Shop over on Etsy have these gorgeous passport cover/luggage tag sets that can be personalised with your names, perfect for your honeymoon.
Scratch maps are a great way to visually appreciate how far you have travelled. Scratchmap.co.uk host a brilliant range of wall hanging maps to commemorate your adventures and plan your future adventures! They even have a 'build it yourself' 3D globe version. I would love one of these, however I need to do a bit more travelling first I think. Maybe the gourmet version would be more up my street!
On a similar theme, Melody Maison have a beautiful world map hanging canvas print to adorn your bedroom wall.
Green fingered couples
Maybe you are thinking completely out of the box and are looking to tittivate your garden after the wedding? I know this is something I could have done with doing really as I now spend my weekends frequenting various DIY stores and plant nurseries trying to get my garden in order!
A gift of a plant is sure to be something to nurture over the years and help prosper the memories of your big day and starting your lives together. Ornamental Trees have a gift section so trees can be sent gift-wrapped with personalised messages making a long lasting personal gift. They also provide gift vouchers if you preferred to choose your own shrubs/trees for your outdoor spaces. Maybe some personalised garden tools like this basket set from DIBOR on Not on The High Street?
Personalised trinkets
These 'I do' mugs from Koko Blossom on Not on The High Street are a quirky little gift, I think my husband would agree with the sentiment on these! A different way to remember your first dance song is with these personalised tea-towels printed with the lyrics to your first dance along with your names and wedding date.
A gift that is really up my street is this personalised wine gift hamper. There is a bottle for the wedding day, the honeymoon and first anniversary, with each bottle label featuring your names and wedding date - something a little different that will last you across your first year together. It would go beautifully with these silver plated champagne flutes and matching wine cooler too!
To go for something really unique, these dictionary prints would make a real talking point. Featuring your married name alongside an individual description of the couple in a dictionary definition style with the gift giver being the author of the definition. Just be careful which of your friends chooses to gift this one! It could also double up as a good first 'paper' anniversary present.
